From Broken to Pallet-Infused: Upcycled Entryway Dresser

Help us on my mission to keep people from throwing away solid wood furniture in the trash when it can be upcycled into something new.

During a visit to see one of our "furniture pickers", look at what he found!  This dresser that was a sight for sore eyes but we had to have it!  Even though it wasn't pretty, we knew that with some patience and a vision, we could breathe new life back into it.   Off it went to our warehouse!

First, we looked to see if the base was structurally sound and to see what was broken/missing.  We noticed that 1 glove box was still located on top, however, the second one wasn't attached nor available.  Therefore we decided that it would be best if we removed it.  You can truly see the years of wear and tear even after sanding down the top.

Next, we began to plan out the internal structure.  One of the two larger base drawers were broken and missing parts. Plus the original fruit carved hardware was chipped.  Thus, we knew that upcycling the dresser would be the next best option.  Here are some of the wood frame pieces that were removed.  They will be reused in another project!

Now that we were finally had the frame cleaned up, we could see how we would restructure the dresser. Being upcyclers, we determined that we could use salvaged chair legs to raise the dresser up and give it support.  Plus use reclaimed pallets to add in support to the base.  As a touch of fun, we also pallet-infused the sides.

Once the entire piece was ready to paint, we used our custom homemade upcycled chalk-styled paint (classes available) for the outside, inside back non-pallet wall, and back of the dresser.  Plus a variety of second-hand store purchased Minwax and General Finishes stains/gel stains for the top, inside the drawers, on the infused pallets, and salvaged legs.
